A Guide Through Confusing Health Insurance: Rick Moose's Story

Health insurance is confusing. Plan types, deductibles, networks and the max out of pocket can leave anyone unsure of what they are buying. That confusion costs the most when something goes wrong. In this video, Rick Moose of 316 Health Insurance shows what it looks like to have a guide on your side.

From Music Teacher to Insurance Advisor

Rick is an advisor at 316 Health Insurance in Wichita, KS. Before this job, he was a music teacher. His favorite parts of teaching were educating people and connecting with them.

He says this work lets him do both every day, in an area of people's lives he never thought could be so impactful. That is why he says he really wants to help people.

A Couple in a Tough Spot

Rick tells the story of a couple he sat down with very recently. The husband had been through several major health events within about a week. He could no longer work.

Their insurance and its max out of pocket left them about $9,000 in the hole. Nobody plans for a week like that, and the cost of it can be hard to see until the bills arrive.

Planning for the Year Ahead

Rick met with the couple to figure out their insurance for the following year. That is a good reminder of why the end of the year matters. It is when many people review their coverage and decide what comes next.

Together they put together a situation that included a plan costing them very little each month. The plan also had a max out of pocket that Rick describes as exceptionally manageable, considering everything they were facing.

Why a Guide Makes the Difference

The couple did not need more jargon. They needed someone to explain their options in plain terms and match them to their real situation. That is the teacher in Rick coming through, and it is how 316 Health Insurance works.

The right choice looks different for everyone. 316 Health Insurance helps with:

  • Medicare
  • ACA and ACA Marketplace plans
  • Individual and family health insurance
  • Small group health insurance for small businesses
  • Self-employed health insurance
  • COBRA and turning 26

My name is Rick Moose and I'm an advisor at 316 Health Insurance. So the reason I'm here is because I really want to help people. I used to be a music teacher and my favorite things about teaching are the educating and the connecting with people and this job gives me an opportunity to do that on a daily basis in an area of people's lives that I never thought could be so impactful. So very recently I sat down with a couple of clients who were in a tough spot.

The husband had been through several major health events all within about the span of a week, could no longer work, and their insurance with their max out of pocket left them about $9,000 in the hole. And as I sat down with them to figure out their insurance for the following year, I was able to help them come up with a situation that included a plan that not only cost them very little monthly but also gave them a max out of pocket that was exceptionally manageable considering their situation. And that's why I love my job here at 316 Health Insurance.
